Adequate nutrition of children in the first 1000 critical days of child’s life is very important for child’s development. Ensuring that children aged 0-31/2 years have adequate nutrition, WICS have an emergency food supplement support program to orphans and vulnerable children. These children are supported with infant milk from birth to 6 months. High energy protein supplements are supported to children over 6 months. Community information and education sessions in communities are undertaken to create awareness and skills in food preservation, cooking demonstration and nutritional value of the local foods. Vulnerable community members with children0-6years are further supported with small agriculture inputs to enhance food security in the communities. Currently, WICS is working with eight communities in this area in liaison with Ministry of Agriculture.
